The contemporary circus performance Grocery Store explores the everyday life of a familiar and ordinary Lithuanian shop. While the performance presents a humorous take on the grocery store setting and its characters, it also touches on themes of post-traumatic stress and the different ways people perceive the same life situations.

For būda.collective, an organization working in contemporary circus and interdisciplinary art, national identity is essential. The foundation of this performance lies in the creators’ own memories of their hometowns, which is why stepping into the Grocery Store invites the audience to feel a sense of nostalgia and experience a story that speaks to all of us.

The show combines physical theatre and contemporary circus disciplines: juggling, object manipulation, and quick change techniques.

One of the most striking elements of the performance is the specially created sound installations – a set of scales and a cash register. These objects are also used as musical instruments, played live by the composer during the performance.

Creators and performers:

Idea authors and performers-jugglers: Kasparas Bujanauskas and Lukas Dirsė

The performance was nominated for the most honourable Lithuanian performing arts awards, the Golden Stage Crosses, for its 2024 production in two categories: Emerging Artist and Small-Scale Performance.
